What's Happenin' Wednesday

I've been busy while Jim has been in Germany.

On Monday night, Sally and I went to the Rochester Knitting Guild meeting to hear a new young designer speak. Her name is Kate Gilbert and she actually grew up in Webster, but now lives in Montreal after spending some time in Paris. She started out as a knitwear designer but has now moved into web design as she is the creator of a new on-line knitting magazine called Twist Collective. She brought samples of many of the patterns that are available on the website and we were treated to an up close fashion show. Here are some photos from our evening. The first shows a large room full of knitters! The next two are some of the many designs we saw.

Last night I went out to dinner with Gram and GrandDad and a long-time friend of theirs, Jean. We had a nice leisurely dinner at Davinci's.

Tonight I have bells and then tomorrow night I will get packed up for Ottawa.

The temps were in the mid-50's today and enough snow has finally melted to allow me to take the Christmas lights off of the bush by the light pole. The forecast for the next 24 hours is wild with wind, snow, fog, and rain in the plan.

I am keeping my eye on the Ottawa weather and although they  have had a mild warm-up, the temperature will plummet on Friday, re-freezing that canal into skaters' heaven!

Time to ring bells.

Hope all is well.

Sunday

Sally, Bob and I must have been the good luck charms for the RIT hockey team because they won, beating Sacred Heart University. It was a good game with a sold-out crowd. Jim and I have been trying out different spots to sit or stand to watch the game and last night I chose a different spot again and I liked this spot better than our seats at the previous game. Last night we sat behind and to the left of the "home" goal. We could easily see the whole rink and it was fun to be close to the action around the goal. Next time I would like to try sitting in the same relative spot, but behind the "visitors" goal. The next series of home games is at the end of February.

Shortly after we were settled into our seats last night and the crowd had filled in around us, Sally leaned over and whispered that the little girl 2 rows in front of us was staring at me! Sure enough, it was one of my kindergartners and her family! It took her awhile to get used to the fact that I wasn't in the gym at school as she kept looking back to me during the first period of the game. She came up to talk to me between the 2nd and 3rd period!

I wanted to show you the flowers that Jim gave me. Forget roses on Valentine's Day, anyone can do that! For years, Jim has always brought me daffodils on Ground Hogs Day! Please don't ask how that started because it started so long ago, that I don't even remember anymore~he may. But when I came home on this past Monday, there on the kitchen table were a big bunch of daffodils! Those are my favorite flowers! Here is a bad photo:

And now a brief knitting update. Here is a photo of my mittens. I got the library book I was hoping would have a lace pattern for a cuff, but I didn't find anything that would work. So my options are to keep looking for a lace pattern, design something myself or leave them as they are.

This next photo is the first skein of my Blue Faced Leister hand-spun yarn. It is a 2-ply yarn and I am not sure it is heavy enough for the pattern I have in mind, so I may make up a 3-ply skein and see what that looks like, or I may just have to spin heavier singles. And you thought this was easy!

I watched a bit of the Pro-Bowl football game and it was quite a let down after such a wonderful Super Bowl. Congratulation to all the fans cheering for the Steelers, including me. Which reminds me, Jim, you still owe me $10.

Tomorrow night I am going to the Rochester Knitting Guild meeting with Sally. The guild is hosting a famous knitting designer and she is bringing her truck show of designs. Should be interesting and inspirational.

Hope all is well.
